Social Issues Project

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: How can people challenge authority? When does challenging authority lead to change?

Assignment: For your research project (which counts as a summative in both History and English), you will be assigned a group of 2 to 3 students to research a current movement in the United States. With your group, you will create an informational website using at least 4 sources. 

Step 1 : Introduction

  • Meet your team & exchange contact info (social media, phone number, or email is fine) 

  • Group topic assigned. See this link 

  • Decide on group leader 

  • Review this document and divide up labor. 

Step 2 - Finding Sources & Summarizing.

  • Each teammate will need to find + reliable source. Your sources should be a mix: magazine, news articles, video, podcast, etc. 

  • Make sure your sources address:

    • Root causes of the issue(s) 

    • Who benefits from this? Who suffers? 

    • Activism: What’s being done about this issue? 

  • Read your source & summarize in THE DOCUMENT ON ENGLISH CLASSROOM.  

    • Group Leader: share your document with your team. Calixte & Odisho are only grading one doc per team. 

  • Support your partners! This will be a group grade & individual grade. 

    • This can look likes this: 

      • Helping find good sources that address the three bullet points above. 

      • Proofreading each other’s summaries 

      • Providing feedback on what to add/change 

      • Staying on task! 

Step 3 - Finding Sources & Evaluating

  • After summarizing your sources, evaluate them. 

  • Use this CRAAP notes & rubric to help you complete THE DOCUMENT 

  • Support your partners! This will be a group grade & individual grade. 

    • This can look likes this: 

      • Helping find good sources that address the three bullet points above. 

      • Proofreading each other’s writing  

      • Providing feedback on what to add/change 

      • Staying on task!
