Assignment

Indigenous America Mini-Research Project 

Objective: Students will participate in a solo or partnered project to present the history and culture of one indigenous North American nation/tribe. 

Directions: Create a Google Slide presentation, infographic, anchor chart, or any other medium on one indigenous North American nation/tribe

Your presentation must include the following information & parts:  

  1. Information about your tribe/nation. Please include the following:

  • What is the name of your indigenous nation? What is the meaning of the name?

  • Where were their lands located (before European invasions)? 

  • Describe their cultural and spiritual practices. What types of cultural and spiritual beliefs/practices did they have? This could include religion, food, dance, clothing, language, housing, spirituality, etc. What importance did these beliefs/practices have for the indigenous nation/tribe?

  • Explain their daily lives. How did they live before the invasions? 

  • What is one important event that happened in their history? Please explain the key details of the event. 

  • Where and how do they live today? 

  1. 3-5 discussion questions for your audience. What do you want them to learn and think about after viewing your presentation?

  2. 2-3 visuals/images that help your audience understand the tribe/nation. 

  3. Works cited page. You need to have at least 2 different, credible sources. 

Grading: You will be graded using the following rubric, for a total of 50 points. 

Project thoroughly answered all of the required questions. 

Project includes all 6 pieces of information (see above)

10 pts

Information is well-researched and provides the audience with detailed information about the chosen tribe/nation.

15 pts

Project includes images/visuals that represent the tribe/nation. They also engage the audience . 

10 pts

Project has 3-5 discussion questions for audience members to reflect on after viewing your work.

10 pts

Sources are cited correctly

5 pts

Extra Credit: To earn up to 10 points of extra credit (depending on quality) on this project, you can do one of the following: 

● Including a musical element that is specific to your tribe in the presentation 

● Creating a 3-D artifact/drawing based on one aspect of life or culture. 

● Teaching the class a few words in your tribe’s native language
