Assignment

Literary Criticisms/Theories Teaching Project

Task: Your overall goal is to research a literary theory and criticism, and teach your class about the literary theory. As you complete this assignment, you should become more familiar with what the criticism is, how it is used, and key questions used when analyzing literature through your criticism.

You will be working in small groups to research different types of theories. Each group will be responsible for ONE literary theory. Using the information gathered through research, each group will create a Google Slides presentation about their theory intended to be used to teach the class.

You will need to accomplish the following steps to be successful.

Step 1 - Read about and research YOUR literary theory. What is it? What are the beliefs associated with this theory? How is it used? What are the guiding questions used for the criticism?

Step 2 - Provide all key terms, key ideas, and people associated with this theory

Step 3 - Read and analyze the short story using literary theory with your group members and prepare to create an activity based on your story and theory-no summary of story.

Step 4 - Create an 8-10 slide presentation that is engaging, explains your theory, key terms, three guiding questions, and includes your short story analysis using your literary criticism.

Step 5 - Work with your group members to create an amazing 35-minute lesson that you will teach your peers all you learned. Please note: If you do not instruct for the whole 35 minutes, your group will receive a grade of 50% on planning and preparation, so plan accordingly.

At the end of your lesson students should...

  1. Have a bell ringer in their notes that you create, helping them to begin thinking about your topic.
  2. Take notes on your literary theory, the beliefs associated with your theory, and guiding questions.
  3. Engage in an activity that enables them to practice what you are teaching them.
  4. Have definitions for the key terms, key ideas, and people associated with your theory.
  5. Know what questions guided you used to analyze the short story through your lens.
  6. Learn about what meanings and interpretation your group derived after analyzing the short story through your literary criticism.
  7. Have homework assigned by you that reinforces what you taught them.

Step 6 -You must create 5-10 quiz questions regarding your theory and presentation. These questions must be submitted to me one day before you present.

Step 7 - Lastly, you are to be an attentive student in your peers’ classroom and actively take notes and engage in the class activities for the day. Failure to do so will reflect in your grade.
