TOPIC:
Fourth Quarter focuses on migration, and, more importantly, why people decide to migrate from one place to another. As you have seen in the literary texts we have discussed, individuals and groups of people often choose to leave their homes for a ‘promised land” where they can achieve success. In history class you have studied the “push” and “pull” factors that determine migration to a promised land.
The topic of your research paper will focus on Chicago history and how a specific Chicago neighborhood served as a promised land to a specific ethnic group. Attached is a list of possible neighborhoods and the ethnic groups who migrated there. Your job is to research the push factors that caused them to leave their homeland, the pull factors that attracted them to Chicago, and the community they created once they arrived.
