Freshman Humanities Revolutionary Figures Research Project

Elliott-Schrimmer/ Yehia

Every year, Time magazine awards the “Person of the Year” distinction to someone who has been in the news for both positive and negative reasons. This year, they have decided that they are going to award someone with the “Revolutionary Figure” award. Each revolutionary figure has been invited to Time Magazine to discuss what makes them “revolutionary.”

Revolutionary: involving or causing a complete or dramatic change.

You will choose your top 3 persons to research from “The Time Magazine” list of potential awardees. This Google Form will then help determine who you will be assigned. Based on the research you will conduct about your assigned Revolutionary Figure, you will create a Google Slides with voice narration in which you argue what makes you revolutionary (and why you should be on the list/win the award). You should write from the first-person perspective.

Required components:

Research

  • 4-5 sources with Source Evaluation Form
  • 2 sources related to the time period or social context of the person you chose to research
  • 2-3 sources related to the person (bibliographical, discussing major contributions, etc)
  • Sources must come from the following:
    • at least 2 ETHS database sources
    • at least 2 internet sources (look for reputable sources such as .edu, .org, .gov; be careful as you will need to defend the credibility of your sources).
  • Each source should be actively read/annotated.
  • You will complete a Source Evaluation Form for your 4-5 sources on Google Classroom.
