Immigration Debate

Many Americans have still not made up their minds about what we should do about immigration in this country.  Most people do not fully understand the main issues dealing with immigration.  In an effort to better understand the main issues, we will have an in-class immigration debate next week to answer the Essential Question:

Should the Government Allow Immigrants

Who Are Here Illegally to Become US Citizens?

Task: For our debate, you will be assigned a side to represent; it does not matter if isn’t actually what you believe (No, you can’t change teams)!  Once the teams are made, you will then split your team up into four parts.  These parts will research the following issues of undocumented immigrants in this country from your side’s point of view: 1. Economic Impact ($ costs), 2. Employment Impact (effect on job scarcity and wages), 3. DACA or Deportations, and 4. Birthright.

We will have the debate on Tuesday.  Today, you will start obtaining your information using the ProCon website and Opposing Viewpoints in Context.  First thing to do in your team is to decide who will work on which topics.  Once you decide the topics, have one person per topic share the Notesheet (in our Google Classroom) with their subtopic team.  In your sub committees, your job is to look through the information and decide on the TWO BEST points for each topic that will prove your side’s argument.
